Last month’s Hudson Valley Click shoot allowed us to explore the film noir techniques of hard/dramatic lighting in black/white images. The models dressed in classy and gangster (not gangsta of today) style clothing, and prepared themselves for a night of seduction, deceit, mystery, crime, but, mostly, FUN.
This shoot, more than some others, really required good acting on the part of the models – since, in my opinion, the best film noir images have some sort of story to them – more than just an image of a person with weird lighting. Something has to be going on. There has to be just enough light in the right place, to give just enough of a hint at some element of the story. Noir lighting also tends to focus on the eyes – because they are a huge tool for expression. So, our models really needed be on their A-game in order to pull off convincing story-shots… and oh they were.
The shoot was at the Bulls Head Inn Restaurant (in Campbell Hall, NY) – a classy restaurant with a gazebo, which all served as a perfect background to our dark story.
